Lark Energy, a PV installer based in Lincolnshire, UK, has confirmed that it will submit an application to build a 30MW solar farm at Ellough airfield in Suffolk, UK. This proposal follows similar plans for a 30MW park at Stradishall Airfield in Suffolk and a 30MW park at Wymesford Airfield in Leicestershire, which were announced in February and June, respectively.
This latest proposal would occupy 150 acres of land. However, the proposed site is situated near a handful of residential properties which could cause the company some planning issues. In order to ease the minds of the local residents, the company will hold a public exhibition of its proposed solar park on September 6.
Commenting on the project, Jo Wall, development director at Lark Energy, stated, “We’ve got a lot of experience in planning and delivering solar farms which generate clean energy, whilst enhancing wildlife and conservation and recognising the importance of the character of a particular area.
“The solar farm will provide local jobs during the construction phase and once operational the maintenance of the site will need to be serviced by local companies. We’re also aware of how close our proposed site is to the UK’s largest solar roof installation at the Promens plant and the overall strategic aim for the Ellough Industrial Estate to provide local jobs in renewable energy. We hope that our plans marry with this and underline the local and Suffolk-wide commitment to renewable energy.”
The company will submit a planning application after the public consultation. If approved, construction may begin later this year.
