LDK Solar starts ramp of polysilicon plant

The first production run at LDK Solar’s 15,000MT polysilicon plant has been completed successfully on September 5th, according to the company. Ramp-up is now underway at the first 5,000MT train at the plant in Xinyu, China. The polysilicon plant is intended for internal consumption as the company becomes an integrated solar wafer producer.

"We are pleased to successfully complete of our first production run and begin to ramp manufacturing at our state-of-the-art 15,000 MT polysilicon plant. The construction of this facility has been an unprecedented undertaking for many of us in attendance. This achievement is thanks to our international teamwork and collaboration efforts," commented Nick Sarno, Senior VP of Manufacturing and Polysilicon Plant Project Manager.

LDK is continuing to build its second train and said in its most recent quarterly conference call that it had spent US$257.1 million in the second quarter on the plant.
