    A fruit and vegetable distribution centre in the south of France is now the site of the world’s largest building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) system, after 97,000 Solaire France Sunstyle PV roofing tiles were installed on the Saint Charles International in Perpignan.

    Australian government chooses solar technology from Conergy

    In June this year, we reported that the Australian government had agreed to spend AU$770 million (US$819 million) on its Solar Flagships programme. In recognition of this, the Dandiiri Contact Center, which receives all emergency calls from the police, ambulances and fire service, will be equipped with solar components from one of the largest solar plants in the state.

    Dow Chemical said it will make the commercial introduction of its Powerhouse solar roofing shingle to U.S. markets this month. The company plans a rolling launch into markets from California to the East Coast that will continue through 2012, starting with the debut program in Colorado in October.

    Neo Solar Power (NSP) is showcasing its new low-cost, high-efficiency monocrystalline solar cell, dubbed the Perfect19, at the PV Taiwan exhibition in Taipei. The six-inch cell allows conversion efficiency rate of over 19%, claimed to be the highest efficiency generated by today’s mass-produced solar cell manufacturers.

    Global Solar Energy enters BIPV product supply agreement with Iscom, Energyka and B.A. Energie

    Global Solar Energy has entered into module supply agreements with Iscom, Energyka and B.A. Energie, three Italian roof specialist companies. Although specific volume details were not disclosed, Global Solar will supply a significant portion of the modules it produces at its Berlin-Adlershof site to the three new partners.

    One announcement that has been creating quite a buzz at this year’s EU PVSEC exhibition and conference is Konarka’s news that it is venturing down the BIPV route with its organic solar cells. Outlining the company’s strategy during a press conference at the show, company CEO, director and cofounder Howard Berke stated that it was a natural move for the company, whose 1cm2 single-junction OPV cells have been verified by NREL as having 8.29% efficiency.
