Kangping Chen, CEO of Jinko Solar, has been awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2010 China Award. Chen was selected by an independent panel of judges for his achievements as an emerging business leader and received the award at a gala dinner in Shanghai on November 19.
Zhong Lin Wang, professor and director at Georgia Tech’s Center for Nanostructure Characterization, has joined Magnolia Solar’s Technical Advisory Board. The role will see him help develop the technology required to produce Magnolia Solar’s third-generation cells and advising on the expansion of their intellectual property portfolio and patent filing process.
Nanometrics has revealed that James Moniz will be retiring from his position as chief financial officer, effective April 1, 2011. Moniz is leaving the company to spend more time with his family but will remain in his role while Nanometrics searches for a successor.
Greg Saunders is the newest executive to join Tioga Energy, being selected as the company’s new executive vice president and chief financial officer. Relying on his 25-year financial background with public and private companies, Saunders will manage the company’s financial development and impart strategic support as Tioga looks to expand its project portfolio.
Karl Taft, who founded Hoku as a fuel cell technology development company with Dustin Shindo in 2001, before successfully developing Hoku Membrane and Hoku MEA, has resigned from his position as CTO.
Johan Enslin, a 29-year veteran for the solar industry and the U.S., Europe and South Africa higher education system, has been named chief technology officer for Petra Solar. He has spent time in executive and consultant positions for private businesses and has been a professor in electrical and electronic engineering as well as conducting work at over 80 U.S., European, Asian and African power utilities, governments and industry projects. Enslin is credited with managing several renewable energy groups and projects for U.S. and international clients through system planning, power electronics and renewable energy integration.
Solar 3D is looking forward to Dr. Changwan Son bringing his expertise in the photonics and optoelectronic devices fields to his new position as the company’s director of technology. Utilizing his background, Son will spearhead the development of Solar3D’s technology and prototype.
DRI Energy is to expand its engineering team with the appointment of Craig Stager as director of photovoltaic design and engineering. In his new role, Stager is responsible for all design and engineering activities for the company.
DEK Solar has appointed Michael Shi as regional sales manager, giving him the responsibility for developing and refining a direct sales channel for the solar production equipment specialist. Shi will also be expected to manage and develop customer relationships and market strategy. In the most immediate term, Shi will aid DEK customers’ understanding of the new Eclipse platform.
Steven Brewer, a 20 year veteran of the large-scale utility industry, has been named Solar Trust of America’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer. Additionally, Brewer will serve as CEO for Solar Trust’s wholly owned engineering, procurement and construction subsidiary, Solar Trust of America , and be a member of the management board for the company.
