    Technic has appointed Wilson Xia as its Asia-Pacific technical director of photovoltaics. Xia’s new role will see him working on the research and development, applications engineering and distribution of the company’s TechniSol photovoltaic processing technologies.

    Colexon sells three Italian PV plants, names new CEO

    Colexon Energy closed out 2010 with the sale of three of its solar power plants to an undisclosed Irish investment company. The €11.5-million sale marks the largest order volume of Colexon in the Italian market to date. The three plants: Leo at 998kWp, Corvo at 997kWp and Valle at 997kWp were developed and constructed as turnkey projects by Colexon Italia, a subsidiary of Colexon Energy.

    Einar Glomnes departs Ascent Solar’s board, Hans Kvalvaag steps in

    Einar Glomnes recently resigned his position from the board of Ascent Solar, effective December 21, after he was promoted to vice president of sales, Europe, along with other added roles at Norsk Hydro. As his departure left a seat open, Norsk Hydro Produksjon, Ascent’s largest stockholder, designated Hans Olav Kvalvaag as the newest member of the board.

    Kilian Krieger joins finance department at Roth & Rau

    The new year will bring with it a new name in charge of business activity at the Roth & Rau Group, after Kilian Krieger was unveiled as the company’s new commercial affairs coordinator. Krieger, 52, will start his new role on January 1, 2011, where he will report directly to CEO Dr. Dietmar Roth.

    Veeco Instruments has appointed Thomas Gutiérrez to its board of directors. Gutiérrez, 62, is currently GT Solar’s president, director, and CEO, a role he has held since 2009.

    Former SPG Solar CFO Chris Robine named company’s new CEO

    Chris Robine, who joined SPG Solar in 2010 as the company’s chief financial officer, has now accepted the position of SPG Solar’s chief executive officer. Prior to SPG, Robine was CFO of General Electric’s renewable energy division where he helped the division double its revenue. Additionally, Robine has previously served as a member on the board of PrimeStar.

    PVA TePla appoint Dr. Arno Knebelkamp as chief technology officer

    PVA TePla has appointed Dr. Arno Knebelkamp as its chief technology officer and temporary deputy CEO. Knebelkamp, who was previously CEO at Vestolit GmbH, will also join the company’s management board.

    Industry veteran Gary Jorgensen leaves NREL after three decades of tenure

    After 30 years as principal scientist at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), Gary Jorgensen is retiring to join SkyFuel as principal materials scientist. Amongst other achievements during his time at the NREL, Jorgensen co-invented ReflecTech Mirror Film, which used in SkyFuel’s parabolic trough concentrating solar collector.

  • Mark Murphy will become MEMC's next CFO.

    MEMC welcomes Mark Murphy to CFO role

    MEMC has extended its chief financial officer position to Mark Murphy, who will take over for current CFO Tim Oliver. Oliver will remain with MEMC through the end of 2011’s first quarter in a non-executive role, but plans to leave the company for the pursuit of other interests. In addition to his role as CFO at MEMC, Murphy will also take on the role of senior vice president. The transition will be effective on January 10, 2011.

    CTDC appoints new COO and CTO

    The board of directors for China Technology Development Group (CTDC) have newly appointed Liao Lin-Hsiang as the chief operating officer and Bruno Diaz Herrera as chief technology officer effective December 13, 2010. Liao will take over for Lu Zhenwei who resigned from his COO position, but has continued on as executive director for CTDC.
