    Tasked with development of growth strategies and branding in the country, Ruey-Bin Kao has accepted the role of country president of Applied Materials China, effective from December 5, 2011. The role will also involve Mr. Kao’s working to develop the company’s relationship with the Chinese government and customers, building on his experience in the technology industry garnered from former roles, including his most recent as managing director for Hewlett Packard (HP) China.

Former investor relations officer, Larry Polizzotto remains within the company, though no formal position has been chosen. Reasons for the shuffle were not given.

    Solar manufacturing giant Suntech Power has appointed Pawel Nowotny as the new head of its European marketing team. Nowotny will be based out of Suntech’s European headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland and responsible for implementing the company’s long-term brand-building strategy across Europe.

  • Energy Conversion Devices (ECD) has announced that ex-Abound Solar executive, Julian Hawkins joining the firm as chief executive officer and president and a member of the board of directors.

    A sharing of management responsibilities at struggling Energy Conversion Devices (ECD) has been announced with ex-Abound Solar executive, Julian Hawkins joining the firm as Chief Executive Officer and President and a member of the Board of Directors, effective December 5, 2011. Current Interim President since May 2011, Jay Knoll will become Executive Vice President and Chief Restructuring Officer at the same time.

    Upon expiry of a recent five-year contract, long-standing employee and current CFO, Sabine Kauper will leave Phoenix Solar at the end of the year. Her replacement, Dr. Bernd Köhler comes from Siemens and will assume responsibility for finance, along with Personnel and Organisation Development, International Process and IT Management, Internal Audit and Law from January 1, 2012.

    As Douglas May, former CEO of Unirac, retired at the end of October, the company had been in search of a new executive and they have found a new leader in Peter Lorenz. The new CEO joins Unirac after serving as president of Quanta Services’ Renewable Energy Services unit. Prior to his role with Quanta, Lorenz worked seven years with McKinsey & Company as an associate principal and specialized in finance assignments with Royal Dutch Shell from 1996 to 1999.
