Würth Solar has sold its production line in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany to Manz. Ownership of the plant, its 118 employees and all of Würth's PV licenses will be officially transferred on January 1, 2012.
The two companies signed a letter of intent regarding the takeover in mid-November, agreeing to modify the existing line from serial-volume to one concentrating on innovation of CIGS production and process technologies; capacity is being reduced from 30MW to 6MW accordingly. Having ceded ownership of the plant, Würth will now focus exclusively on marketing.
“We are quite satisfied that we have come to a mutual agreement with Manz in all points, allowing us the transfer contract’s finalisation according to schedule before end of 2011,” Würth Solar managing director Bernd Sprecher said. “Our intention now is to propel further development of the CIGS innovation line under the roof of Manz AG without delay.”
“... we will now exclusively focus on our core competence which is marketing of photovoltaic," Würth’s managing director, Karl-Heinz Groß, added. "Our goal is to further strengthen and expand our leading position in Germany and abroad with our team of now about 250 staff members of Würth Solar, SolarMarkt and Creotecc."
