Mentarix Pte., Ltd., a photovoltaic components start-up based in Singapore, has received funding from BAF Spectrum, a seed fund also based in Singapore. BAF Spectrum has bought a 30% stake in Mentarix, which company is developing technology to improve solar cell efficiency by at least 20%.
The technology under development can be used on thin-film CdTe/CdS, CIGS and amorphous silicon cells, as well as crystalline silicon cells. Mentarix’s technology is based on the use of quantum dot nanotechnology and photonic technology, and will take the form of a thin film applied to the solar cell that converts the sunlight characteristics to a form that is more easily absorbed by the solar panels.
“BAF Spectrum shares our long-term vision in building a vertical solar-hydrogen industry business to power the world energy need,” said Mr. Chee Khar Chit, Founder and CEO of Mentarix. “I admire their commitment and willingness to take risk at the current prototyping stage.
