Mercury Solar Systems has completed the installation of a 3.6MW solar system, with over 12,000 solar panels, in Manalapan, one of the largest ground-mounted, grid-interconnected solar systems in New Jersey.

The US$17.2 million solar project is owned by NJR Clean Energy Ventures, who closed on a 21-year lease with the Village at Manalapan Solar for 13-acres of land last year. Spano Partners acted as the land and project developer.

The solar system is expected to produce 4.5 million kWh annually – enough energy to power approximately 450 homes every year. This will eliminate an estimated 3,100 metric tons of carbon equivalent emissions from the atmosphere each year or the equivalent of removing the carbon dioxide emissions produced by approximately 609 cars.

“This ground mount is the largest system we have designed and installed to date and underscores the continued strength of the utility-scale solar market in New Jersey,” commented Frank Alfano, CEO of Mercury Solar Systems.

“Mercury Solar Systems worked diligently to get the system designed and permitted. Their professionalism and expertise on this project were critical in getting this project approved,” said Gary Mangino, vice president at Spano Partners Holdings.
