Mozambique has officially opened the country’s first PV module production facility.
The plant was funded by the Indian government via its Export Import Bank, which provided a US$13 million loan in 2011.

It will produce modules for the local market to boost rural electrification. It is hoped the plant will be able to reduce the cost of solar panels in the country as it looks to boost access to affordable energy.
The facility outside the capital Maputo was opened by Mozambique president, Armando Guebuza.
Italian tool manufacturer Ecoprogetti kitted out the plant for Mozambique’s Fundo Nacional de Energia (FUNAE).
