National Solar Power has selected seven counties located in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina as contenders for the 400MW solar installation the company plans to develop. Heralded by National Solar Power as the largest solar farm in the world, the solar project is comprised of 20 related 200-acre solar farms that each generates 20MW of solar power.
The counties in the running include Gadsden, Hardee Osceola and Suwannee in Florida, Sumter and Tattnall in Georgia and Guilford in North Carolina. The company will conduct several site visits and hold strategic conversations with political, government, business and community leaders in the selected counties in order to make its final decision.

Every one of the communities on our finalist list is an attractive location for this project.”
The selected county will have to meet a number of satisfactory criteria including an adequate amount of undeveloped land, community support, the ability to qualify for certain tax incentives and access to a qualified work force. Once the final selection is made, National Solar Power, working with Hensel Phelps Construction, anticipates that the first segment of the solar project will be completed within six months.
Each 20MW farm segment is a US$70 million investment with a six year construction timeline bringing the 400MW solar project to a US$1.5 billion total investment in the chosen community.
