The new head of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, criticized the renewables incentive scheme implemented by his predecessor, Socialist Miguel Sebastian, in a radio interview this week.

Soria did not provide any details, admitting not having found the time to address the issue in detail. He will be particularly concerned with the Royal Decree Law 14/2010, which lowers PV rates between 2011 and 2013. The minister insists he will continue to support the deployment of renewable energy installations, arguing for an overhaul of the system to encourage investors. He also said that it is important that the price of electricity reflects the real costs associated with producing that electricity.
