The governor of the state of Kaduna in Nigeria, Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Helios Energy, a Germany energy company, for a 30MW solar power project. Dr. Jeremy Gaines, the coordinator of the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership, signed on behalf of the German firm.
As part of the terms of the agreement, which was signed under the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership, Helios Energy will invest around €50 million to build the 30MW facility. The plant will be constructed on 60 hectares of land under a build, operate and transfer (BOT) scheme which will last for a duration of 25 years.

When complete, the facility will be operated by Kaduna indigenes who will have been trained by Helios Energy in Germany.
During the signing, governor Yakowa noted that the project would “boost socio-economic activities, while strengthening his administration’s tripartite focus on security, unity and development”.
Meanwhile, Dr. Gaines said that the partnership will help to boost economic activities in Kaduna and further attract foreign investment.
