NRG Energy and First Solar will be collaborating on the development of NRG’s 66MW Alpine solar project in Lancaster, California with First Solar agreeing to provide engineering, procurement construction, operation and maintenance services for the solar array. First Solar’s thin-film PV modules will be utilized in the installation, which is expected to start installation work before the end of the year and be completed by Q3 2012. The Alpine project will see the electricity it produces sold under a 20-year PPA with Pacific Gas and Electric.

"Less than two years ago, NRG and First Solar began our productive collaboration for our first solar plant at Blythe, which at 21MW was the largest solar plant in California at the time. Alpine is three times that size, so we've really come a long way together in a short amount of time," said Tom Doyle, president of NRG's Solar and West Region. "Working with world-class companies like First Solar, NRG's solar projects promote cleaner air, create hundreds of local jobs and advance our country's position in the global clean energy economy."

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.
