Oncor launches PV incentive program

Oncor has launched its first solar power initiative, the Take A Load Off, Texas Solar Photovoltaic Incentive Program. By providing cash incentives to qualified homeowners, businesses and governments to add PV power systems in Texas, it aims to stimulate development of solar energy, create jobs for experienced installation professionals, and increase solar system accessibility.

Oncor expects that their four-year, US$16 million program will successfully install approximately 1,400 new solar power systems. Only homes, businesses and government buildings that are served by Oncor are deemed eligible to participate.

“The Take A Load Off, TexasSM, Solar PV Incentive Program is an exciting and innovative project, the first of its kind for Oncor,” said Michael Stockard, Oncor’s Director of Energy Efficiency Programs. “With so much interest in the solar power industry at the state and national level, Oncor’s Solar PV Program is the right idea at the right time.”

Ocor’s payout will be US$2.46 per DC watt, with a maximum of US$24,600 for each residential installation, and US$246,000 for all others. Most residential solar panel projects range from 1 to 10kW, and businesses and government installations could receive incentives for projects of 100kW, with even larger installations considered.

Oncor plans to offer 11 additional programs this year in order to promote renewable energy, which will contribute to a total of 31 Oncor energy efficiency programs. This makes Oncor one of the largest energy efficiency initiatives sponsored by a regulated utility in Texas.
