Order Focus: Kyocera to supply 13MW of modules for Japan’s Ohgishima plant

TEPCO’s Ohgishima solar power plant is to be equipped with around 13MW of Kyocera’s solar modules, the company has revealed. The Ohgishima project, dubbed the “Mega Solar System,” is being built by Hitachi with a scheduled completion date in 2011. The modules will be installed on a 57-acre site on an artificial island near Tokyo Bay, one of the largest solar installations in the country.

Kyocera has become popular as a supplier to Japanese projects in particular, and the company claims to have garnered the largest share of the Japanese market for industrial and domestic solar installations. As government subsidies spur demand for solar energy and Japan plans a new feed-in tariff system, Japan’s solar market looks set to expand in the coming years.
