Panasonic launching 96-cell HIT solar module to North American market

Targeting the residential market, the 96-cell ‘HIT’ module is one of the few volume produced Hetero Junction (HJ) cell-based modules on the market.

The solar PV division of Japanese electronics firm, Panasonic Eco Solutions, is to offer a large-area, high-performance module in the North American market from January 2016 onwards.

Targeting the residential market, the 96-cell ‘HIT’ module is one of the few volume-produced hetero-junction (HJ) cell-based modules on the market and adds to a recently upgraded range of modules that include its HIT N330, launched at Solar Energy UK 2015 late last year, which is claimed to produce approximately 27% more kilowatt-hours per square meter, compared to mainstream 260-watt multicrystalline modules.

Dan Silver, president, Panasonic Eco Solutions Company North America said: "North America is one of the fastest growing markets for renewable energy in the world and solar is expected to drive a significant percentage of that growth over the next several years.”

Panasonic also recently extended its HIT product guarantee from 10 to 15 years in the European market and noted that it would also been offering the extension to the North American market in 2016.

The company also said that it would also be broadening the scope of its operations to include all of North America this year.
