Panasonic to build 26MW in Kern County, California

Panasonic Enterprise Solutions plans to add to California’s Kern County solar complex with the development of a 26MW project near Lost Hills.

Under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE), the 200-acre project is expected to generate clean energy to power the equivalent of 5,000 homes for SCE customers, according to Panasonic Enterprise Solutions’ eco solutions managing director Jamie Evans.

As a joint venture between Panasonic and alternative energy financing and operating firm Coronal Group, Panasonic Enterprise provides solar engineering, finance, construction, and operation for large and small scale projects.

The plan for the Lost Hills project includes the use PV panel technology mounted on horizontal-axis trackers that rotate with the sun's position in order to optimise electricity generation. It will be built by Panasonic and Swinerton Builders and is scheduled to be operational by May 2015.

News of this solar system adds to the growing list of announced projects in Kern County PV Tech has recently reported, which include a 135MW plant by 8minutenergy Renewables and a 10MW development by Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.
