Power-One elects Dr. Richard Swanson to board of directors

Former CTO, President and founder of SunPower, Dr. Richard Swanson, has been selected as Power-One’s newest member for the company’s board of directors. Swanson began his new position October 29. He is also the current president emeritus of SunPower.

"We are pleased to add Dr. Swanson to our board of directors," said Jay Walters, chairman of Power-One. "We believe his background as one of the founders of the solar industry will provide a wealth of knowledge and experience to Power-One. We look forward to his contributions as a Director."

Swanson graduated from Stanford University with a PhD in electrical engineering and went on to join the school’s faculty. While there, Swanson and his team developed the point-contact solar cell, which he continued to build on until 1991 when he resigned from Stanford and went to SunPower full time.
