Project Focus: AT&T and SunEdison expand partnership for San Diego installation

In a combined agreement to further AT&T’s national solar initiative, SunEdison agreed to install a new rooftop solar power system in San Diego, California. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and SunEdison officials were on site for the official inauguration of the new solar power system. SunEdison and AT&T have contracts for a total of six solar power installations in California by the second quarter of 2011, which will amount to around 2MW of solar capacity for all sites.

"SunEdison makes solar a reality for commercial clients throughout the world," said Brian Jacolick, general manager, Americas for SunEdison. "Through smart design, proven technologies and our strong financing capabilities, SunEdison helps clients like AT&T realize the benefits solar energy offers”.

The relationship between SunEdison and AT&T goes back to a strategic power purchase agreement between the two companies where SunEdison is responsible for the construction, monitoring and maintenance of the installations. AT&T then buys the energy from the solar systems to balance their grid demand.

The San Diego installation is a 296kW rooftop mounted PV system, which is estimated to produce 420,000kWh of energy in its first year. Once all six systems are on-line, they are expected to generate 2MW of solar capacity and over 3.2 million kWh of energy within their first year.
