Project Focus: Bechtel Construction signs agreement for 440MW facility

Bechtel Construction and two labour organizations have signed an agreement for the construction of a 440MW concentrating solar thermal power facility in southeastern California, called the BrightSource Energy's Ivanpah Solar Electricity Generating System.

Under the terms of the project labour agreement, the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, and the Building & Construction Trades Council of San Bernardino and Riverside counties will provide qualified workers to BrightSource's Ivanpah project, and Bechtel will provide fair wages, fringe benefits and working conditions for all craft workers.

The Ivanpah facility comprises of three solar thermal power plants and is scheduled to begin construction in 2010, following final permitting by the California Energy Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
