Jiawei Solarchina has been chosen to supply photovoltaic modules for two projects as part of China’s Golden Sun Project. The Chinese solar manufacturer will supply 3.5MW of panels for a pair of grid-connected projects in Wuhan: a 2.5MW PV power plant at the Pak Chuen farm and a 1MW installation at Sinosteel Tiancheng Environmental Protection Science and Technology science park.
The Pak Chuen project aims to modernize the 2.8 million square feet of farmland and provide highly efficient, stable electricity for the farmers and residences nearby, the company said. The 2.5MW system will be built in an empty 200-hectare area.
The installation will have a total investment of approximately RMB 71 million (US$10.4 million) and will begin construction in January, with completion taking place by the end of 2010, according to Jiawei.
The other project at the Sinosteel Tiancheng Environmental Protection Science and Technology science park will consist of 1MW of panels installed on the rooftops of factories and office buildings. Some RMB 29.8 million (US$4.36 million) will be invested. The company press release is unclear as to whether the project will begin in or be completed by May 2010.
Jiawei recently announced the completion of what it calls the world's largest solar LED street lighting system (which feature the company's PV modules) on Dazu Yingbin Avenue in Chongqing. The company is also building a 100MW+ module manufacturing facility in Wuhan with contract partner Evergreen Solar.
