Project Focus: REC Solar commits to 1.7MW of federal solar systems in U.S.

REC Solar has signed an agreement to develop 1.7MW of solar power installations on federal facilities in California, Arizona and Nevada. Commissioned by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the systems are scheduled for completion in early- to mid-2010. The 1.7MW will be spread over several locations: VA Medical Centers in Palo Alto, Fresno, Los Angeles, and Long Beach; and VA Medical Centers in Tucson, AZ and Reno, NV.

Equipped with a range of Satcon inverters, the plants will use more than 7,000 of REC’s AE-US PV modules mounted on a combination of roof, carport and ground-mount applications.

“We are pleased and honored to work with the VA Hospitals in their effort to increase the use of renewable energy in achieving their agency-wide goals," said Angiolo Laviziano, CEO of REC Solar. "Today, solar PV technology is competitively-priced for commercial and government applications. It's fast to install, and reliably delivers clean power, particularly during peak demand hours when the electricity rates are the most expensive.”
