Project Focus: Sharp PV modules chosen for 3.2MW rooftop system on Denver Federal Center

Sharp Solar Energy Solutions has been chosen to provide the photovoltaic panels for a 3.2MW solar system at the Denver Federal Center (DFC), one of the largest Federal agency centers in the U.S. This project, funded through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, was awarded by the General Services Administration in December 2009. Construction will begin in April.

“In collaboration with Centerre/E Light Wind and Solar, we are thrilled to be helping the DFC reach its goals of sustainability by harnessing the power of solar energy.” said Ron Kenedi, VP of Sharp Solar Energy Solutions. “Deployment of clean, renewable emissions-free solar systems like this are helping thousands of organizations lower electricity costs, as well as their carbon footprint.”

The joint venture of Centerre/E Light Wind and Solar chose Sharp solar panels based on the quality and reliability of its product, as well as its fulfillment of ARRA’s “Buy American” clause, the company said. The Sharp solar panels used for this project qualify under the “Buy American” clause; the 14,612 modules to be deployed for the project will be shipped from the company’s Memphis, TN, factory.

The 3.2MW system will be roof-mounted on three separate buildings. The project will use Sharp’s 224W polycrystalline modules designed for commercial grid-tied roof systems. The ND-224UC1 solar modules incorporate an advanced surface texturing process to increase light absorption and improve efficiency.
