Polysilicon and solar wafer producer, PV Crystalox Solar has said that wafer shipment volume for 2008 will be in the region of 225-230MW, which is slightly above its previous guidance of 220-225MW. The company had previously reported that 1H08 production had reached 110MW.
Despite the global economic situation the company noted that demand continues to remain strong with shipments continuing as scheduled and that 95 percent of its expected 2009 production has been secured with long-term contracts. Customers include Q Cells, Suntech, Schott Solar and the Intel spin off, SpectraWatt.
PV Crystalox Solar also noted that construction of its new 1800MT polysilicon facility in Bitterfeld Germany should be completed in December, 2008, with first production starting in April, 2009, all to schedule. Initial production for 2009 is targeted at 900MT.
However, the company noted that it was concerned about the potential weakening in the solar market but remarked on the expected demand from Japan due to new incentives expected to start next year as it has long-term key customers in the country, such as Sharp and Mitsubishi which are expected to benefit from the government packages. PV Crystalox Solar generated 53 percent of its 1H08 revenue in Japan.
