Bureaucratic problems and administrative procedures had dogged solar installations in Greece in 2008 with only 11MW installed, up from 2MW in 2007, according to the EPIA. However, by July, 2009 a total of 29.8MW has been installed this year, according to the Center for Renewable Energy Sources in Greece and reported by Energia. The report noted that module price declines of approximately 35% had been a key catalyst for growth.
The EPIA has projected that PV installations in Greece would reach 35MW installed in 2009, based on a ‘moderate’ scenario compared to 52MW expected with a ‘policy-driven’ scenario.
Stelios Psomas, a PV consultant based in Greece had recently told SolarPlaza that only mature projects that were authorized for installations last year would be realized, which would equate to a total of 38MWp installed for 2009.
Although difficult to judge, it would seem that the moderate installed projection made by the EPIA would be exceeded yet according to Psomas’ projections installations would fall rapidly in the second half of the year with less than 10MW being installed.
Despite 3.5GW of PV projects in the pipeline for Greece, according to the EPIA, bureaucratic problems would seem to be ongoing.
