IKEA recently brought its 22nd solar project online at its Tampa, Florida store. Developed, designed and installed by REC Solar, the 1,189kW system uses 4,956 PV panels and is built across 148,800 square feet of the store’s rooftop space. The companies expect for the array to produce around 1,792,300kWh of electricity per year.

IKEA owns and operates all of its solar PV systems, including its new one in Tampa. The company has 17 more locations with PV installations in development, which will eventually bring its US solar presence to nearly 38MW. “The installation of solar panels at IKEA Tampa is another way we can build upon our ongoing commitment to sustainability,” said Monica Varela, IKEA Tampa store manager.  “At IKEA, we believe in being a good business while doing good business and investing in renewable energy accomplishes both of those goals.  We appreciate the support of the City of Tampa, TECO, and REC Solar, our partners in this project.”
