According to a report from CBC News, Siliken Renewable Energies has let go of 40 people from its Windsor, Ontario solar panel manufacturing plant. The dismissal is equivalent to one shift at the plant and has Paco Caudet, production manager at Siliken, blaming the terminations on government regulations and a lack of market.
Siliken opened its Windsor facility in May 2011 after investing nearly US$7 million in the plant. This is not the first job cut for the site, which originally employed 50 people; two months after opening employed 120 people and in early July 2011 laid off 70 of its employees.
