Sanyo adds 90MW ‘HIT’ solar cell line to Shimane facility

As part of its previously announced solar cell production expansion plans, Sanyo Electric is to add a new 90MW Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin layer (HIT) line at its Factory Building No. 3 in Unnan City, Shimane, Japan. The new production line will be installed on the second floor and is scheduled to begin operation in April 2010.

This would give Sanyo 220MW of HIT capacity at Shimane and with its Nishikinohama Factory in Kaizuka City, Osaka a total of 430MW in FY2009, confirming previously capacity expansion plans.
