German inverter manufacturer, SMA has released a new ‘complete package’ designed to help UK solar farm developers meet the upcoming April 2015 deadline for subsidy change.

Government proposals to remove support for solar farms over 5MW under the renewable obligation (RO) by April 2015 have triggered a rush of projects across the UK. Developers are now racing to complete projects before support is scrapped in favour of the auction-based contracts for difference (CfD) scheme which developers say is marred by a number of problems.

The company claims that its SMA system solution package is tailor made for the UK market and will allow power plants to be completed and connected to the grid faster  a serious pinch point for developers due to the UK’s ageing grid and tightening capacity. The company states that the system’s scope, delivery schedule and technical advice have all been optimally designed for current UK market dynamics.

“With our complete package, covering everything from the string-combiner to the grid connection, we want to ensure that our customers in Great Britain can implement their photovoltaic projects quicker and without any complications,” said Boris Wolff, executive vice president of the Utility Business Unit at SMA.

Wolff added: “In addition to expanding our system solution to include the grid transfer station, we are also shortening delivery times and supporting project developers and investors with technical advice and a full range of services.”

Wolff confirmed that SMA is considering launching the system solution in additional markets in the medium term.
