The Solar Technology Acceleration Center (SolarTAC), currently under construction in Aurora, Colorado, has named Dustin T. Smith as the Executive Director of the solar test and demonstration centre. The centre, which was launched in October 2008 by management and operating contractor Midwest Research Institute (MRI), represents a group of six public and private sector individuals and companies whose aim it is to advance the commercialization of solar technology.
The 74-acre SolarTAC facility will be one of the largest solar test and evaluation facilities in the world and will enable utilities and solar industry members to test solar technologies that are currently under development or in the early stages of commercialization. SolarTAC’s members include founding members Abengoa Solar, SunEdison and Xcel Energy, as well as the City of Aurora, The Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory, and MRI.
Bringing over 18 years of experience to the role, Dustin Smith joins the organization from his former role as director of project and program development and deputy program manager for the MWH Business Solutions Group. He has a B.Sc. degree in engineering and technology from Oklahoma State University.
This new role, which comes into effect on March 16th, will see Mr. Smith report to MRI's Research Operations and provide all strategic and directional leadership, as well as developing and overseeing all operational plans for the centre.
