SolarWorld’s total shipments top 1.1GW in 2015

Consolidated preliminary revenue reached €763 million (US$828.9 million), an increase of 33% from the previous year. The company reported fourth quarter 2015 revenue of €231 million (US$250.8 million), up from €212 million in the previous quarter.

Integrated PV module manufacturer SolarWorld exceeded both its shipment and revenue guidance for 2015, driven by US market growth. 

The company reported preliminary full-year 2015 total shipments of 1,159MW, up 33% when compared to 2014. Fourth quarter shipments reached around 404MW, up from 315MW in the third quarter of 2015.

SolarWorld reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of €35 million, compared to €1.6 million in 2014. Fourth quarter EBIT was €8 million, compared to a fourth quarter 2014 negative EBIT of €10 million.

Cash and cash equivalents stood at €189 million at year end, compared to €177 million at the end of 2014.

2016 guidance

SolarWorld noted that it was targeting full-year 2016 revenue of around €1.0 billion on total shipments increasing by more than 20%, indicating total shipments are targeted to reach around 1.4GW, pushing utilisation rates well above 80% on expansions being completed from 2015 in early 2016. 

The company also expects increased demand for high-efficiency PERC (passivated emitter rear cell) and bifacial solar cell-based modules in 2016.
