SolFocus to co-develop 1.6MW CPV array in Greece

SolFocus has announced that it has signed an agreement that will see the concentrated phovotoltaic technology company work with engineering company Samaras Group on the construction of a 1.6MW installation. SolFocus’s Madrid-based European operation base is expected to expand to incorporate a subsidiary in Greece following the announcement.

Using the SolFocus 1100S system, installation of the CPV plant will begin in spring 2009, with the first power output expected in summer. Power generated by the plant will be sufficient to meet the needs of a town of approximately 2,500 people, according to SolFocus.

"We view this groundbreaking project as the beginning of a promising collaboration with SolFocus,” said Dimitrios Samaras, President of Samaras Group. “As two pioneering companies, we will introduce the unrivaled efficiency of concentrator PV solar technology to Greece and other regions in southern Europe."
