Solon revealed that its 12.3MW distributed solar project in Italy has been successfully completed with installations having been developed on 18 buildings and 7 carparks for Interporto di Padova. The €50 million project is said to be the largest of its kind in Italy and received financial support from several institutions including, BIIS and Banca Popolare di Verona.

“By making use of all the roofs of the buildings and work sheds,” explained the Solon CEO Emiliano Pizzini, “we developed a zero environmental impact installation by occupying surfaces that would otherwise be left unused. This is a perfect example of sustainable industrial development which is precisely the direction that Solon’s future is heading in. Furthermore, we used ‘0 kilometer’ modules, that is, modules produced locally in our factory in Carmignano di Brenta near Padua, which is in keeping with our policy of local production and consumption.”

The multi-location project uses flush-mounted modules, tilted modules on flat roofs, solutions with asbestos roof abatement, PV carports and integrated systems. In total the 18 rooftops make up 11.3MW of the project, while the 7 carports provide 1MW of solar power.

The projects were connected to the grid between October 2010 and April 2011 and feature 49,000 polycrystalline silicon Solon Blue modules and 7,500 amorphous silicon Unisolar PVL modules.  Power-One provided 49 of its PVI central TL inverters, which will help the project generate its anticipated 13 million kWh of solar electricity per year.
