Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy have completed their fourth joint solar acquisition in two years.
In a statement released today, Southern Power’s parent company, Southern Company, said the installation was the 2.5MW Granville Solar Facility in Granville County, North Carolina.
The Granville Solar Facility will be operated and maintained by SunEdison, a provider of solar energy services and a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials. Construction of the facility is under way and it is expected to enter commercial operation later this month.
Media mogul Ted Turner, owner of Turner Renewable Energy, teamed up with Southern Power in January 2010 to develop renewable energy projects in the United States.
The partnership's first project was the acquisition and development of the 30MW Cimarron Solar Facility near Raton, New Mexico. It was, at the time of purchase, the largest solar PV plant in the nation.
The partnership has since purchased the 20MW Apex Solar Facility and the 30MW Spectrum Solar Facility, both of which are located in Clark County, Nevada.
