Unirac was faced with a unique position to be part of a well-publicized humanitarian effort at Haiti’s Mirebalais Hospital. The company recently provided Sullivan & McLaughlin with a customized flat roof RapidRac G10 PV mounting solution to optimize a 400kW solar installation, which sits on the rooftop of the soon to be opened hospital.
The hospital is being built as part of a restoration project following the country’s January 12, 2010, 7.0 magnitude earthquake. The solar project was designed to meet the energy needs of the hospital, allowing the facility to function independently from an energy source that has proven to be unreliable and cost prohibitive. Further, the installation may even be able to return extra capacity back to the power grid.
Unirac’s RapidRac G10 allowed for the solar panels to be securely mounted 8” above the roof with a 10 degree tilt angle. Further, the system fit the bill for interesting criteria, which includes hurricane force wind loads and seismic activity through its ballast weights.
