Spire’s new engineering platform to enable module materials and design assessment

Spire Corp. has decided to share its module-making recipe through the provision of a new development engineering platform for universities, R&D purposes, companies and government laboratories. The platform includes such Spire tools as the Spi-Stringer, the Spi-Laminator and the Spi-Sun Simulator, and training on all of the equipment and processes is included in the platform package.

The reason for the development of the platform is to enable said organizations and establishments to evaluate new materials and designs for producing solar modules, supplying basic information on recommended materials for the process as well as a basic crystalline module design. The “How to Make a PV Module” instruction book is intended to aid in the evaluation of each researcher’s and company’s technology and pave the way for further improvements.

“This development engineering platform will allow for a broad range of researchers and organizations to become involved in solar energy for a modest investment,” said Roger Little, Chairman and CEO of Spire Corporation. “The availability of this development platform is intended to accelerate the introduction of new PV module technology into the industry. It is also intended to provide students with access to real world equipment and processes which may lead them into a career in solar energy.”
