SPUK: SMA Solar Technology sees off-grid as a key market in the long-term

The off-grid market will become a key focus area for SMA Solar Technology in the future.

Speaking with PV-Tech at Solar Power UK 2012 which is being held in Birmingham this week, James Martin, the UK national sales manager of PV inverter manufacturer SMA Solar Technology, said that the international off-grid market may become one of the company’s core markets in the future.

The company has already started tapping into the off-grid sector in a number of emerging markets. Earlier this year, the company set up a subsidiary in South Africa and Chile.

These countries, especially South Africa, have recently become a hot spot for the solar industry with South Africa being a key hot spot for off-grid products. In September Antaris Solar commissioned South Africa’s first mobile off-grid eKiss systems in Cameroon.
