GE Capital Real Estate and SunEdison flipped the switch on the first two of fifteen solar rooftop systems, which fall under the Ontario FiT program. The solar projects are part of GE Capital Real Estate’s environmental sustainability initiative with SunEdison agreeing to build and operate all fifteen of the PV systems.

"The adoption of solar energy in installations like this will help transform how we build and manage our cities, our businesses and even our homes," said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. "It will add to major investments The Regional Municipality of York is making in public transit and transportation, community services and security and will help ensure our businesses and communities are competitive, prosperous and sustainable."

GE Capital will host the solar installations at its commercial buildings in the Toronto area, including Vaughan, Brampton, Burlington, Markham, Mississauga and London. The first two systems commissioned will produce over 3.2 million kWh of energy, with all fifteen projects accumulating to a 2.3MW capacity.
