EPC contractor, SunEnergy Europe, has announced that a 5.3 MW power plant has been connected to the grid in Hessia, southern Germany.
The US$7.5 million solar farm is the largest ground-mounted PV installation in Hessia.

The turn-key power plant constructed by Hamburg-based SunEnergy Europe was the result of a collaboration between the community of Woelfersheim/Hessia and the local utility Ovag.
The installation, adjacent to Woelfersheimer Lake, a former brown coal open-cast mining site, produces environmentally friendly electricity on about 4 hectares and meets the electricity demand of about 1,500 households.
After dismantling the old coal power plant, the building rubble was used to fill the grounds, creating a heterogeneous subsurface structure.
Christian Rolle, SunEnergy's construction supervisor, said: “Even though it was a bit tricky to calculate the parameters for the substructure on the grounds of a somewhat inaccurate soil expertise, thanks to close cooperation between all parties we were able to find solutions quickly and stay within schedule.”
