SunPower and IEUA complete 3.5MW installations

Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), a municipal water agency, and SunPower Corp. have announced the completion of a solar power installation totalling 3.5MW over four locations. The installations are located at four IEUA facilities in Chino, Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga, California. The installations, one of which features a 1MW SunPower T20 Tracker system, are expected to save the IEUA approximately $500,000 per annum in energy costs.

The 1MW T20 Tracker system is located behind the agency's Chino headquarters. Nearby at the agency's Regional Plant 1 in Ontario, a 700kW array of SunPower Trackers has been installed, as has a 137kW SunPower T10 Solar Tile system atop a capped reservoir. A 624kW array of T10 Solar Tiles was also installed at the IEUA's Carbon Canyon Treatment Plant in Chino.

A further 1MW system was established in Rancho Cucamonga, California on top of the Inland Empire Regional Composting Authority (IERCA). This particular array was constructed under a joint power agreement in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sanitation District.

"With the completion of this new system, IEUA is now producing nearly half of its electricity from alternative energy sources," said Patrick Shields, Executive Manager of operations at the IEUA. "SunPower provided high-efficiency technology to ensure we are maximizing the energy produced on site, and completed the installation in just five months. The solar system furthers our commitment to sustainable practices, and is a source of pride in the community."

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.

This digital interactive Lite sees Tom Cheyney follow Agua Caliente’s progress on becoming one of first truly utility-scale PV power farms, where 40–50MW (AC) will be commissioned by the end of the year. We also feature one of the world’s largest silicon thin-film PV power plants, Avenal; a report on warnings of the collapse of module prices from Solarbuzz and PI-Berlin presents tips on PV module testing. A print version of this edition will be distributed at Solar Power International 2011 in Dallas, Texas.
