Suntech opens China’s first module testing lab with Underwriters Laboratories

Opening the doors to the new Wuxi, China-based PV module testing facility, Suntech Power Holdings’ state-of-the-art lab is the first of its kind in China to be awarded the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Witness Testing Data Program (WTDP) Certificate. The 1400m2 (interior) and 7000m2 (exterior testing space) lab features the latest in module testing technology, and, being located at Suntech’s headquarters, is sure to speed up the company’s product marketing. The test equipment, which includes pulse and continuous solar simulators, walk-in climate chambers, mechanical load and hail testers, electroluminescence testers, and high precision infrared cameras, ensure modules’ compliance with such exacting standards as the UL1703, IEC61215 and IEC61730-2.
"This new state-of-the-art PV module testing laboratory reflects Suntech's goal of producing the highest quality and most reliable solar panels in the industry”, said Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech's Chairman and CEO. “Underwriters Laboratories has exceptional, globally recognized expertise in quality testing, and it is an honor to be the first solar company in China to be awarded with the Witness Testing Data Program certificate."
