Testing for PID (potential induced degradation) of Centrosolar’s modules at TÜV Rheinland have confirmed that its modules experienced less than 1% reduction in performance, easily passing the tests which stipulate less than a 5% voltage-related reduction in performance as being non-PID affected.

PID can occur due to power leaks developing at the transition point from the module and the frame, resulting in short circuits that lead to lower than designed system performance.

Centrosolar modules that were tested at a negative voltage of 1,000 volts for seven days at room temperature, then with fluctuating temperatures for an additional seven days.

“The outstanding results of the PID test are just another indication of the high quality of our modules,” remarked Dr Johannes Kneip, Managing Director of Centrosolar. “We examine cells and modules in our production facility according to the same standards as TÜV. We only deliver systems that are guaranteed to be PID-free.”

Centrosolar claims to be one of the first German-based PV module manufacturer’s that have carried out the PID test and passed. Four independent testing institutes, including TÜV Rheinland, have developed PID testing programs for crystalline PV modules.
