The Vote Solar Initiative has announced that a new solar incentive program in Texas could potentially produce anywhere from 45,000 to 90,000 jobs, depending on the amount of actual manufacturing carried out in the state. Supporters of renewable energy proposed a 3,000MW solar rebate program to aid the energy economy in Texas.
With 40 quads of solar energy generated every year, Texas has more solar resources than any other state in the country, including California, which in 2006 had committed to making US$3.2 billion worth of incentives available for solar development for 11 years.
With employment in electric work, structural engineering, construction, manufacturing, sales, marketing, finance, and legal services, solar power produces more jobs per MW than any other technology. Jobs in this field list every education level and every salary requirement.
CEO of Texas-based Meridian Energy Systems, Andrew McCalla, added, “Texas residents and businesses already want to go solar. A strong statewide incentive program would give the Texas solar market the jump-start we need to lead the nation in the new energy economy.”
Vote Solar announced 90,000 employment opportunities through a series of amusing advertisements run in major daily newspapers asking candidates to apply for strong solar policies at the Texas legislature.
