Financials

More long-term wafer sales contracts at REC that were initiated back in 2006 and carried on through 2008 are being terminated as wafer supply is abundant and prices have collapsed. REC said that it had accepted the termination of another one of these contracts against a cash compensation of approximately NOK 200 million (US$33.3 million) to be received in the first quarter of 2012.

REC expects to recognize income of approximately NOK 325 million (US$54.1 million) in the first quarter 2012, related to termination of this contract, due to pre-payments that were already previously received.

Weak wafer demand and declining prices have forced REC to close and temporarily suspend a large level of wafer production in 2011, however, advanced module manufacturing in Singapore remains at full capacity.

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.
