Yingli Green Energy’s multicrystalline PV module has come through TÜV Rheinland’s 2010 Energy Yield Test with flying colours, ranking second amongst the thirteen modules tested. First place in the testing went to Schott Solar's Perform Poly 225 module.

The Yingli module generated an energy yield 1.4% above the average level and just 0.3% less than the highest-ranked performer. TÜV’s year-long test measured the energy yield of modules under actual sunlight – as opposed to simulators – from 11 manufacturers in Europe, North America and Asia. Testing took place at the testing body’s Cologne site and finished on April 30.

"For the period of one year, the energy outputs of 13 different PV modules from 11 participating companies were measured. The data was then normalized to 1Wp of the TÜV Rheinland measured STC power and compared with one another," said Christian Bauerdick, project manager of the TÜV’s Energy Yield test. "The results can give an idea about the performance under real conditions for moderate climates like in Cologne, Germany."

"We participated in this test for the first time and won a respectable place amongst peers," Dengyuan Song, chief technology officer at Yingli Green Energy, added. "We are very pleased with our test results, which we believe reflects the superior quality of our products."

Liansheng Miao, chairman and CEO of Yingli Green also commented, "The results demonstrated our continued focus on technology improvements and process efficiencies to yield superior operating performance and stability, which in turn brings higher investment returns to our end customers."

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.

This digital interactive Lite sees Tom Cheyney follow Agua Caliente’s progress on becoming one of first truly utility-scale PV power farms, where 40–50MW (AC) will be commissioned by the end of the year. We also feature one of the world’s largest silicon thin-film PV power plants, Avenal; a report on warnings of the collapse of module prices from Solarbuzz and PI-Berlin presents tips on PV module testing. A print version of this edition will be distributed at Solar Power International 2011 in Dallas, Texas.
