SCHOTT Solar and ersol Thin Film to co-develop tandem thin-film solar cells

06 February 2008 | By Síle Mc Mahon | News > Power Generation

SCHOTT Solarersol Thin Film GmbH and SCHOTT Solar are pooling R&D resources to fast-track the eventual introduction of micromorphous thin-film modules that uses a double-layer structure consisting of an amorphous and a microcrystalline silicon film. The tandem cell design is claimed to increase module efficiency by 50 percent in comparison to amorphous thin film technology.

“Both companies – SCHOTT Solar und ersol Thin Film – will profit from this research alliance. We are anticipating a market lead of both partners in micromorphous thin-film modules based on our proven amorphous silicon technology,” commented Dr Martin Heming, Managing Director of SCHOTT Solar GmbH.

Should the program be successful, both companies will be early-to-market suppliers of the tandem cell technology.
