Ferro Electronic Materials has introduced two new rear aluminum conductor pastes, intended to reduce manufacturing costs while improving electrical efficiency and adhesion compared to currently available commercial products. AL 5130 and AL 5131 have pure aluminum metallurgy with high solids content and are claimed to enable fast printing at speeds of more than 200 millimeters per second. These new pastes react with silicon wafers and form a uniform and deep back-surface field (BSF) in the range of seven to ten microns without introducing recombination traps, helping to boost electrical efficiency.
Edwards, a global supplier of vacuum and abatement equipment and services, has introduced the GXS 450 and 750 series of dry-vacuum pumps optimized for solar laminator applications. The new GXS series is claimed to deliver higher throughput and productivity, while at the same time providing a lower cost of ownership.
Arnold Gruppe has introduced a new squaring saw for monocrystalline brick production that is claims to be extremely robust. The type 72/746 squaring saw will be introduced at EU PVSEC in Hamburg, Germany. The type 72/746 squaring saw employs two diamond cutting discs working in parallel that are claimed to reduce kerf loss and increase throughput.
LayTec launched a new in-line metrology system ‘PearL’ at the Intersolar Europe 2011. PearL is an optical in-line monitoring system, measuring photoluminescence spectra of CIGS thin-film modules in production lines and is part of the LayTec product line for solar applications. Photoluminescence spectra allow a fast detection of the effective Ga content of the absorber during the production process. A product option for CdTe absorbers is also available.
With the FPI solar series, dr. schwab IT has developed metrology systems covering all aspects of the production process for thin-film panel manufacturing. The new system meets volume production speed requirements with full surface measurement for quality assurance as well as continuous monitoring of all process parameters helping to increase productivity and yield of production lines.
KLA-Tencor has introduced FabVision Solar, a new integrated solution designed to help crystalline-silicon photovoltaic cell manufacturers improve production yield and profitability by enabling them to react more quickly to metrology and defectivity excursions. The software package pulls the company’s ICOS PVI-6 optical inspection system data through a wide range of analysis and monitoring features to provide better control and improve visibility into the manufacturing process.
Gerold’s HMA-system automatically applies liquid butyl (hot-melt) for edge-sealing of thin-film modules, replacing the need for butyl tape, which has limiting use factors in high-volume production applications. Gerold claims the HMA-system offers more economical packing drums, less waste, and improved product quality.
Kinematics slewing drives are designed, tested and guaranteed for a 30-year field life. All aspects of engineering control are based on creating a low-cost, reliable solution for our customers. We qualify all the raw materials, components and final assemblies to meet these standards. Kinematics slewing drives use hourglass worm technology, affording them maximum survivability load-holding capacity and increased efficiency and accuracy.
Engineered Conductive Materials (ECM) has introduced two new ‘Conductive Stringer Attach Adhesives that reduce costs. The DB-1541-S3 adhesive employs a material formulation that has been optimized for improved conductivity and stability on molybdenum substrates while reducing the silver content to reduce cost. The DB-1538-2 adhesive is available as a one- or two-part adhesive, allowing costs to be saved on dry ice shipments and -40°C storage of one-part systems. Both materials can be used for thin-film, organic and thinned silicon solar modules.
Targray Technology International has launched a new paste from world leading manufacturer Giga Solar Materials. This new aluminum paste provides excellent back surface field (BSF) for mono and multicrystalline silicon solar cell wafers. The paste is designed for excellent efficiency, high material compatibility, adhesion strength, and a wide process window.
