Product Briefing Outline: Robert Bürkle has introduced a complete flexible Back End Line for the production of crystalline solar cell modules. The company claims it has the highest throughput per square meter when based on its stack lamination platform. The line is highly flexible with the line layout (straight /U-shape) accommodated, according to individual requirements.

Problem: Due to market demand manufacturers of solar modules have to adapt their production capacity. For an augmentation of the capacity they often have to invest in a new line and than the companies are facing the problem of space requirement for the extension.

Solution: The back end solutions Bürkle offers can easily be extended to a higher capacity and integrated into an existing line. For example the lamination line concept can vary from two to three presses or another stringer can be added. It claims to be the highest throughput per square meter line when based on its stack lamination platform.

Applications: Back End Line for the production of crystalline solar cell modules.

Platform: Different levels of automation are available. Module size: 1.000 x 1.700 mm and 1.000 x 2.000 mm. Cell matrix: 60 or 72 cells/module. Systems can be supplied in 25/50MW sizes.

Availability: June 2010 onwards.

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.

This digital interactive Lite sees Tom Cheyney follow Agua Caliente’s progress on becoming one of first truly utility-scale PV power farms, where 40–50MW (AC) will be commissioned by the end of the year. We also feature one of the world’s largest silicon thin-film PV power plants, Avenal; a report on warnings of the collapse of module prices from Solarbuzz and PI-Berlin presents tips on PV module testing. A print version of this edition will be distributed at Solar Power International 2011 in Dallas, Texas.
