NEOptions, the Bulgarian Development Collaborative and SDN are collaborating on what they claim will be one of the largest solar PV projects in the EU. The 45MW solar PV project is made up of one 20MW installation and another 25MW solar PV installation in the towns of Samovodene and Zlataritsa, Bulgaria. Construction has started on the solar PV project, with 5MW already completed.
Chevron Energy Solutions, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and Tioga Energy have started construction work on a joint venture at Oceanic’s Mililani Tech Park. When completed, the 856KW facility will be the largest solar canopy project on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
Sinosol has completed the grid connection of its 2.7MWp solar power plant in Engstingen-Haid, Germany. The company developed and constructed the power plant.
Recurrent Energy has tripled San Francisco’s solar capacity by opening its 5MW power plant on the city’s Sunset Reservoir. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has agreed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement to use the energy generated by the system’s 24,000 PV panels, which will be used to power municipal services and facilities, such as the city’s airport, light rail, and buildings.
Martifer Solar has begun the construction of two new PV plants in Northern Italy, which combined will produce 3.1MW (DC) of power. The first plant, located in the province of Cremona, will be a 1MW (DC) fixed structure. This project is a result of an investment by a local farm that separated its businesses into renewable energies.
SunPower has won the right to design and build a 1MW PV system near Tucson, Arizona. The ground-mounted facility will double the city of Tucson’s solar capacity and is to be built on 10 acres of recovered agricultural land owned by the city’s water department.
Etrion has finished work on its 1MW Oria solar park in Puglia, Italy. The ground-based facility, which has primarily been financed by a 17-and-a-half-year non-recourse loan from Centrobanca, will produce 1.7 million kWh per year.
Sempra Generation has completed construction of the largest photovoltaic solar power plant in the U.S., Copper Mountain. The facility, located in Boulder City, Nevada, about 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas, USA, is expected to generate 100GWhr of electricity annually.
NRG Solar is set to expand its power generation portfolio by opening a 20MW plant in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. The company plans to invest US$21 million over the next three years in the Roadrunner Solar Electric Facility, which will be constructed by First Solar and sold to El Paso Electric.
In the greater scheme of things, the completion of a 3MW PV system should not make a lasting impact on the PV landscape. However, this is not the case when the system in question is the first large-scale installation in a country with the untapped solar potential of India. When Conergy added the finishing touches to its Itnal plant last summer, it was a significant milestone in India’s National Solar Mission.
